    Abstract
This paper presents an examination of the possibility of using wind turbines generating electricity for households in the remote rural areas of Botswana. On the basis of theoretical consideration of the wind system generating electricity, and the power demands of a typical Botswana rural household, some types of possible advanced systems are recommended. Comparative information is given about the costs of solar (photovoltatic) and wind power systems. From an analysis of the magnitude and the distribution of the wind in Botswana, conclusions are made about the areas where the wind system for electricity generation could be used during the whole or part of the year.
